QUEEN ELIZABETH SIXTH FORM

COLLEGE 2007 – 2008

A grant has been given to the Creative Arts Programme Area towards creating opportunities for students to work with practising artists and designers. This may take the form of taking students out of college for talks from artists and to participate in various workshops in galleries and other spaces and bringing visiting artists and designers into college.

For example, the first part of the programme will take the Art Foundation students to Belsay Hall to research the ‘Picture House’ exhibition. The curator Judith King, and artist Tanya Axford, will give a lecture on the work and give a guided tour. Students will be given the task of working in smaller groups, taking on the role of either curators or artists, to come up with ideas and proposals for an exhibition or exhibition piece to be sited in one of the spaces in this historic house. This work will be developed further with a follow up talk from Tanya Axford at college.

The second stage will take students to a study day at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park to see the Andy Goldsworthy Exhibition and other works.
